A cycling experience mostly off the road, but still on perfectly paved paths: This is what the SauerlandRadring offers. The road bike variant deviates in some places from the actual route of the SauerlandRadings and the HenneseeSchleife to offer a continuous asphalted route.
Meschede
Meschede
Meschede, Eslohe, Schmallenberg, Lennestadt and Finnentrop are the five main towns on the SauerlandRadring and the HenneseeSchleife. And due to the closed loop - in addition to several other small villages - they are ideal starting points. There is no fixed start and end point, you can "hop on" at any point - just like on the train. Some of the evidence of the railroad's past can still be seen along the route: in addition to old signaling systems, buffer stops and wagons, you can also marvel at old steam locomotives. And as a special highlight, the famous Kückelheim "Fledermaustunnel" awaits cyclists.
Meschede - Berge - Eslohe - Finnentrop - Lennestadt - Schmallenberg - Bremke - Erflinghausen - MeschedeOrientation: Since 2015, there has been a junction system in the Sauerland for easier orientation. For the SauerlandRadring, it is therefore best to use the logo or the junction sequence as a guide.Junction sequence: 22 - 28 - 29 - 44 - 42 - 55 - 49 - 47 - on the B236 to junction 41 - from the Maumke sewage treatment plant back onto the B236 in Meggen back onto the SauerlandRadring -37 - 39 - B236 to Fleckenberg (from there roadside cycle path) - 50 -46 - 45 - 26 - 27 - 23 - 22
Wearing a bicycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists. Before setting off, check that your bike is in perfect condition. For demanding tours, we recommend packing plenty of drinks and snacks.
A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerlandkreis, Märkischer Kreis, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the Südwestfalen cycle network.
The highlight and landmark of the SauerlandRadring is certainly the Fledermaustunnel. But you will also find many other exciting places and sights along the route.
You can easily reach the SauerlandRadring by public transport. The train stations in Finnentrop, Grevenbrück, Lennestadt and Altenhundem are the ideal starting points. There are direct connections to the train station in Meschede from Dortmund, Hagen and Kassel,
There is also a comprehensive bus service between the communities along the route.
